Resolution against SL at UNHRC has no substance, says government

The government says that the resolution tabled by the United States against Sri Lanka at the United
Nations Human Rights Council has no substance.
Senior Legal Adviser to the Cabinet, Former Attorney General, Mohan Peiris said that the government has already commenced establishing most of what has been requested in the resolution.

He said that the government has even taken steps to implement the recommendations contained in the LLRC report.

Mohan Peiris noted that such resolutions, will not help protect human rights in the country.

According to Peiris, the US resolution is full of baseless facts.

He noted that the European Union, the United States, England, a few Latin American countries and some African countries are against Sri Lanka.

A Sri Lankan delegation is to head to Geneva to counter the resolution on Thursday.

The high profile delegation includes ministers Mahinda Samarasinghe, Prof. G.L. Peiris and
Nimal Siripala de Silva.
