Ministry of health says as no medicine is issued from the OPDs of the hospitals due to the protest, measures have been taken to issue medicine for patients from the private pharmacies located in close proximity to the hospitals.
The Ministry went on to say that this step was taken for the benefit of the patients inconvenienced due to medicine not been issued from the OPDs of the government hospitals as a result of the strike commenced by the Joint Trade Union Federation of Professions Supplementary to Medicine yesterday.
The Ministry of Health noted that medicine could be obtained free of charge from today, by presenting the prescriptions to pharmacies located in close proximity to the main hospitals in the country.
Meanwhile, a discussion was held last evening with the Joint Trade Union Federation of Professions supplementary to medicine with the participation of Minister Maithripala Sirisena.
The Ministry stated that the minister agreed to address all of their requests except one.
The Ministry of Health further stated that even though the Minister agreed to provide a solution to the other request after holding discussions with the Ministry of Finance, those engaged in the protest has not agreed to this decision.
