Presidential Spokesman Bandula Jayasekera has confirmed to Newsfirst that President Mahinda Rajapaksa, on the evening of May 18, signed the papers for the release of former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, before leaving to Qatar on an official visit.The relevant document has been handed over to Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath.
The papers will be sent to the Ministry of Justice on Monday.
