JVP politburo member Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed these views at the briefing.
"The people are beginning to express their displeasure over the current situation in the country. The government is attempting to control this by holding staggered elections. An election is something which is held to find out the will of the public.’’
’’The north central Provincial Council’s mandate ends on the 23rd of august 2013 while the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council’s mandate ends in approximately fifteen months. The people elected a provincial council and gave them a mandate for 5 years.’’
’’Last time around, the elections to the eight provincial councils were held on six different occasions. Millions of rupees were spent. The government distorted the will of the people by using its state power, state television as well as thuggery," said the JVP politburo member Anura Kumara Dissanayake
