easibility study on selling sand found near Gal Oya project


The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau has commenced a feasibility study on selling the sand found at a sand mine in the Gal Oya project, to the market.

Chairman of the Bureau Professor N.P. Wijayananda said that a request has been made for the Irrigation Department to conduct a study on the sand mine and produce a report.

Research will be conducted to ascertain the suitability of the sand in the mine. 

Meanwhile the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau has discovered another sand mine in the Trincomalee area.

Chairman of the Bureau professor N.P. Wijayananda added that the sand mine is located 4kms behind estuary of the Mahaweli river
