Young mother throws infant into a well

A seventeen-year-old mother who had thrown her one month old infant into a well in the Dodanggoda-Kathangoda area in Kalutara has been arrested.

Police stated that the mother had allegedly committed the crime while no one was at home.

Meanwhile, residents who had heard the mother calling for help had rescued the infant from the well and had rushed the infant to the Nagoda Hospital.

However, the infant had died upon admission to the hospital.

The Dodangoda police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
