Lightning takes fourteen lives


Fourteen individuals have died in the month of April alone due to lightning strikes.

Twenty one  individuals have died due to lightning strikes this year so far.

Meanwhile, a boy had died after being struck by lightning in the Eheliyagoda area yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as a sixteen year old school boy.

The police stated that the boy had been struck by lightening while at a function.

Meanwhile, the Met Department has stated that the inclement weather and lightning prevalent in the country will continue into next month.

Duty forecaster at the Met Department G.P.Yasarathna stated that the reason for these deaths to occur was the negligent attitude of the public during lightning.

The Met Department has also requested the public to be vigilant and take precautions to minimise lightning related accidents.
