The agreement was reached when the committee appointed to look into the correct national flower convened yesterday.
Director of the Bio-diversity Secretariat Ajith Silva said that the committee agreed to name the sky-blue Water Lily scientifically known as Nymphaea Nouchali, endemic to the country as the national flower of Sri Lanka.
He added that, the committee decided to publish this fact in all school text books along with a photograph.
The committee was appointed as an issue cropped up when an incorrect image of the national flower was circulated amongst schools.
Ajith Silva went on to say that the recommendation made will be presented before the cabinet in the coming weeks.
