The Railways Department states that there may be a delay in train times today owing to the strike that took place last evening.
Railways Department General Manager B.A.P. Ariyaratne stated that they would be able to restore train timings by evening.
Railway station masters, train drivers and foremen of the department of railways engaged in a strike last evening demanding that several of their issues be addressed.
They subsequently called off their strike following discussions with Transport Minister Kumara Welgama.
The Railway Trade Union Collective stated that railway operations were at around 50% this morning due to last evening's trade union action.
Convenor Janaka Fernando stated that a certain amount of time was required to completely restore
railway services in the wake of a trade union action.
In the meantime the Western Province Passenger Transport Authority has taken steps to provide transport
facilities for those commuters who were stranded by the railway strike.
Chairman of the authority Piyasena Dissnayake stated that buses would be functioning outside their roster as well to address this issue.
