President Mahinda Rajapaksa has taken steps to set up a fund to help artists overcome financial difficulties when utilising the Mahinda Rajapaksa Lotus Pond theatre.
According to a release issued by the President's Media Unit this decision had been arrived at when the President met a group of performing artists.
The President has made arrangements to set aside ten million rupees for local artists in order to stage their creations at the theatre.
Speaking to the performing artists, the President advised them to utilise the theatre to produce creations of international standards.
The President added that a fund will be set up to assist such creations.
