Civil Procedure Code to be amended

The Government has taken steps to amend the Civil Procedure Code.
Secretary to the Ministry of Justice Suhada Gamlath said that the amendments will be presented to the
cabinet this week.

He said that several policies will be included in the amendments to avoid the delay in cases.

As part of the policies, for the first time in the country, mediation will be allowed.

Thereby, a judge will intervene, by summoning both parties to the problem and discuss it directly and
solve the problem.

In addition, a special officer known as the Master will be appointed to prepare the core matters of the case.

Therefore, Suhada Gamlath said that the judge will only need to look into the final decision of the case.

The Criminal Procedure Code too is to be amended.
